One day out of the blue, I was treated to a lovely surprise, a small package from my 76-year-old Aunt Tillie who lived 2,000 miles away. I felt Aunt Tillie's connection as I opened the package with great anticipation.

Nestled between layers of cotton was a delicate, lacey drawstring bag. I carefully untied the strings and put my hand into the bag. I felt a small round object. Bringing it into the light I found a dime mounted in a silver bezel. I quickly realized it was not just any dime, it was a 1953 dime, a dime from the year of my birth.

As I opened the hand-rolled piece of parchment accompanying the dime, my mind was flooded with wonderful memories that I shared with Aunt Tillie. But I was curious as to why she sent this dime. Slowly the secret unraveled as I read these words she had lovingly written. "The year was 1953, when Vickie became another little twig on the family tree. Wear this as you follow your dreams so you'll remember that your family is with you wherever you go."

Aunt Tillie had gifted each of the 17 women in our family with their own personal dime, each a dime from the year of her birth. And now as we wear our Dime of Dreams, we are reminded daily of how much we are cherished.
